Elmwood Strings (ES) is a growing studio program in Racine, Wisconsin focused on high-quality musical preparation. Lessons are currently available in Cello, Violin, Viola, & Piano under several different teachers.
Why choose ES?
1. ES balances student goals & interests with ongoing musical development. Students are able to work on what matters most to them, but will leave with the ability to play any style of music.
2. ES emphasizes effective set-up, listening skills, and technique. Students grow to be well-rounded, aurally-sensitive musicians.
3. ES holds students to high musical standards of achievement. Students must evidence complete mastery before officially 'graduating' from a piece; often this means returning to old pieces several years later to apply finishing touches.
4. ES utilizes only expert teachers demonstrating professional-level performance ability. Teachers offering lessons in multiple instruments will only teach pre-determined levels appropriate to their instrumental expertise. All teachers have completed college and/or Suzuki Association coursework in music theory & pedagogy.
5. ES is committed to offering a full music curriculum by 2013, including early childhood music, Suzuki repertoire groups, musicianship classes, chamber music, orchestra (through Lakeshore Youth), and private/semi-private lessons.
6. ES teaches and encourages students to apply their musical studies to ministry settings and situations.
7. Students from low-income families may request scholarship assistance and/or alternative payment options.
8. Teachers recommend products and businesses solely on the basis of quality, price, and good practices. ES and its teachers will never accept commissions, kick-backs, or finders-fees from instrument dealers, repair shops, etc.
