Elmwood Preparatory Strings is a growing studio program in Racine, Wisconsin focused on high-quality musical preparation. Lessons are currently available in Violin, Cello, & Harp. We are particularly passionate about cello!
How is EPS different than other string programs?
1. EPS emphasizes effective set-up, listening skills, and technique above instant gratification. Students grow to be well-rounded, aurally- & orally- sensitive musicians. To this end, we employ the Suzuki method, and much lesson time is devoted to scales and exercises-- many of which are fun miniature pieces or duets.
2. EPS holds students to high musical standards of achievement. Students must evidence complete mastery & memorization before officially 'graduating' from a piece; often this means returning to old pieces several years later to apply finishing touches.
3. EPS utilizes only expert teachers demonstrating current professional-level performance ability.
4. Beginning in fall of 2010, EPS will offer need-targeted ensemble, group, and theory class opportunities.
5. EPS balances student goals & interests with ongoing musical development. Students are able to work on what matters most to them, but will leave with the ability to play any style of music.
6. EPS teaches and encourages self-identified Christian students to apply their musical studies to ministry settings and situations.
